Virtual Fundraising Forum
In the same vein, the University Advancement Office (UAO) at NUST launched the NUST Endowment for Educational Development (NEED) in 2015.
This nation-building initiative was built on the core mission of making NUST a need-blind Centre of Excellence that provides education to all
those who qualify on merit. Owing to the dire economic condition of the country, the merit qualifying brilliant students with financial challenges
exceed 61% of the total intake every year. To ensure that each deserving student gets access to our classrooms, we reach out to our alumni,
as well as corporate and industry partners, and engage them to help support our cause.
The ultimate goal of this initiative is self-sustainability by establishing a dedicated endowment in order to surpass reliance on government, aid agencies,
and philanthropists. In the first phase, NUST is aiming to establish a minimum of 300 permanent scholarship seats constituting 75 slots available each year
for a four-year undergraduate degree intake.
In an attempt to remain inclusive, the University has been working tirelessly to make NUST a truly national institution that has a footprint in all the
provinces of Pakistan. The recent launch of our Building Balochistan – Brick by Brick campaign in 2019, expresses our strong commitment to this goal. A
NUST campus in Quetta will aim to provide the brilliant minds of Balochistan, as well as from all over Pakistan, an education that puts their future on
the paths of success.

Zakat Drive 2021
In addition to our year-long campaigns, UAO also conducts short campaigns to engage the community. At the beginning of March,
UAO initiated a Zakat Drive 2021. Our heartfelt appeal for donations was much more urgent than the previous years as Covid-19 left
many families without income due to lay-offs. We at the National University of Sciences and Technology witnessed its direct impact
as the number of special cases reaching out for financial support rose exponentially. This year, along with the new intake of students,
the applications from students in second, third or final year has resulted in a piled-up waiting list with multiplied anxieties.

Role of Tertiary Education
It is a known fact that higher education plays the most significant role in uplifting the nations and paving the way for a
transformative future. This is why we observe all nations that have grown and prospered over the years have relentlessly worked
to build their educational institutions.
Behind leading economies of today stands the renowned names of Harvard, Stanford, MIT, Oxford, and various other leading institutions of the
world. These institutes have aided to foster strong economics, whose GDP growth is directly linked to their R&D output.
However, it is alarming to observe the downward trend of education in Pakistan. The global world average of tertiary education access rate
stand at 38.2% according to the World Bank statistics. With countries like Bangladesh averaging at 18%, Pakistan needs to reevaluate its process
and structures as the country stands at a disappointing access rate of 10.2% of tertiary education. This calls to reinforce the dire need and
paramount importance of tertiary education in these present challenging times.
NUST Coming Forward
Rising to this call, NUST has come a long way as a premier Science & Technology University of Pakistan. Since its inception in March
1991, it has earned the infallible reputation of being a next-generation university with a progressive and innovative outlook. Characterized
by its intellectual resource, strong knowledge base, innovative solutions, and thriving research and development infrastructure, NUST has
secured a coveted standing amongst the world’s elite Higher Education Institutions (HEIs). Its R&D ecosystem in the fields of S&T, being

commitment to building nation through transformative higher education. We are humbled by the recognition conferred upon us by international
ranking and award-giving agencies of repute and stay put to achieve new milestones.
As NUST ascended into the top-tiers of tertiary education, we lifted thousands of deserving students with us. For three decades now, the University has
been a gateway towards a better future; welcoming generations of first-in-the family graduates from all across Pakistan and providing them with a
springboard for advancement.
